- December 2026. Bruno Nicenboim and Giovanni Cassani are co-organising the
Computational Psycholinguistics Meeting 2026,
2–4 December at Utrecht University.
- September 2026. Beyond Decodability: Reconstructing Language Model
Representations with an Encoding Probe by
Gaofei Shen, Martijn Bentum, Tom Lentz, Afra Alishahi and Grzegorz Chrupała
has been accepted to EMNLP 2026. Instead of decoding features from a model’s
activations, the probe reconstructs the activations from interpretable
linguistic features, then removes features one at a time to rank how much
each contributes.
- June 2026. Tilburg hosted EAMT 2026, the 26th annual conference of the
European Association for Machine Translation, from 15 to 18 June. Members of
the unit were on the organising team and edited the
proceedings.
- May 2026. On 8 May the unit hosted a
workshop on the evaluation and interpretability of spoken language systems
at MindLabs, organised by the Dutch Open Speech Technology Foundation. Jelle
Zuidema gave the keynote, with talks by Gaofei Shen, Hosein Mohebbi, Yuanyuan
Zhang, Marianne de Heer Kloots and Charlotte Pouw.
- March 2026. Javad Pourmostafa Roshan Sharami defended the PhD thesis
Toward domain-specific machine translation and quality estimation systems
on 4 March.
